Builth Wells Golf Club
Description
Its central location makes Builth one of Wales' most accessible courses as well as one of the most popular. Its picturesque setting makes it particularly tempting to golfers from the Midlands and it is difficult to decide who is more proud of the place, the members or the visitors.
Builth's Secretary/Manager John Jones is a constant recipient of compliments from those who delight in a course that makes up in fascination what it lacks in length. One of the many letters he has received recently commented: 'Our heartiest congratulations upon the excellence of your course, fairways, tees, greens, semi-rough, all was so splendid and well manicured. The overall effect was quite outstanding, of the highest quality not only as a great challenge, with so many interesting holes, but also for the joy of the surrounding scenery. Everything was truly superb'.
Needless to say, Builth loves visitors as much as visitors love Builth. The course traces a 5,376 yard trail through woodland and around water. Many holes demand accuracy rather than distance while small and well-guarded greens add to the trickery of it all.
Even the clubhouse is a collector's piece. It is a listed building, being a converted 15th century Welsh Long House featuring some of the original oak beams. It boasts two large wood fires which add to the clubs convivial.
